Holiday Lunch Packs scheme

The North Lakes Foodbank Holiday LunchPacks Scheme started in 2015 to help fill the gap left by the absence of free school lunches during the school summer holidays. We worked in partnership with Sellafield Power Station to fundraise and collect food for the lunch packs, and activity sheets based on Bible stories were created to go with the packs, with colouring pencils generously donated by Cumberland Pencil Factory.

Since 2015 the scheme has developed and is now available in the Christmas and Easter holidays as well as the summer holidays. The Foodbank's Schools Worker now produces the activity packs, and donations of Easter eggs, advent calendars, toys and books from local individuals and businesses go out with the packs. During the Covid pandemic North Lakes Foodbank was able to expand the scheme to include secondary school pupils and we now help around 400 families in West Cumberland every school holiday.
