summer foodpacks -
a helping hand

We're working to ensure no child goes hungry over the school holidays.

This summer, our long-running Lunchpacks 4 Kids scheme has been extended to families with children in Years 7-11 who are in receipt of free school meals. The Summer Foodpacks: A Helping Hand scheme started on Monday 20th July and will run throughout the six-week summer holiday.

about the scheme

Since 2016, we have been providing a Lunch Packs 4 Kids scheme across Allerdale and Copeland, which provides free food packs over the school holidays to low-income families with primary school age children. In response to the coronavirus pandemic and the additional hardship being faced by families, we have extended the scheme to families with children in Years 7-11 who receive free school meals. The scheme is being supported and given funding by Allerdale Borough Council, Copeland Borough Council and Cumbria County Council.

Families will continue to receive the government school meal vouchers, so our Summer Foodpacks will be an extra helping hand making sure there is enough food on the table over the six-week break. The packs are designed to feed up to two children aged 11 to 16 and will consist of non-perishable food that could be eaten as a lunch or dinner. Each pack contains enough food for up to 10 meals.

how it works

You should have already received a white letter and voucher from your child's school. If you think you qualify for a voucher and you have not received one please contact your school.

Take your voucher to one of the locations below to collect your weekly food pack. The foodbank staff will keep your voucher for the duration of the scheme.

You will need to return to the foodbank centre each week (or every two weeks for some locations) over the six-week school holiday to collect a new food pack.

faqS

If you have a question about the scheme which isn't answered here please email Stuart Christian on stuart@thefoodbank.org.uk

Q:  I have more than two children. How many foodpacks can I claim?

A: One food pack feeds up to 2 children, so for example if you had 4 children we would provide two packs. If you had one child at infant/junior school and one child at secondary school (and therefore hold both a pink and white voucher), we would give you one food pack each week which will feed both children.

Q: I've missed out on the first week of the scheme. Can I still collect my food packs?

A: Yes, you can join the scheme at any time over the summer break. Depending on how many packs we have available, you may be able to also collect any which you have missed from previous weeks.

Q: How can I get a voucher for my primary school age child?

A: If you have used the Lunchpacks 4 Kids scheme either last Christmas or the Easter just gone we will have posted your pink voucher directly out to you. You can collect a food parcel each week of the summer holidays.  If you have not received your voucher and you think you are eligible, please email the office info@thefoodbank.org.uk
