Fifteen Schools across Allerdale and Copeland took part in the Green Foodbank Day on Friday 21st June. Green Foodbank Day is an initiative of North Lakes Foodbank and is one of their many events during 2019 to mark their 10th anniversary. On Green Foodbank day pupils were encourage to wear something green and to donate a tin of food for the privilege. Each school was also given a letter to create using the donated food. Each letter was then collated into a montage to spell out the words ‘North Lakes Foodbank 10 Years’. Over 1.2 tonnes of food was donated. Stuart Christian, Schools Worker for North Lakes Foodbank said, “I have been blown away by how much food has been donated; this exceeds our expectations”. One of the schools participating said that their pupils really enjoyed the day dressing up in green and learning about the need to help and care for others in their community. Several schools have already requested that Green Foodbank Day is repeated next year.
